A Personal Note from Gina K.- my trip to the ER. Warning- a little graphic.

Hi Friends!

I hope you are all surviving the end of the school year and enjoying the start of summer! I don't have a new video this week and I apologize for that. It's been quite the week.

For those of you who only like messages from me regarding stamping, now is the time to hit the delete button and go on about your day. :)

So, my Mom has come to live with me for a couple of weeks while my sister is away. Although I love my Mom, it does change the dynamic of my work schedule and leaves me little time to get done my usual nine million tasks each day that make StampTV and Gina K. Designs happen!

Yesterday, my Mom wanted to see my daughter's apartment. Of course, I should have been filming StampTV however, it's my Mom. So I figured that I would go to the studio in the evening instead and just work late once everyone else was home to be there with her.

That didn't quite work out the way I had planned. After I made dinner, I was cleaning up the kitchen and I felt like my nose was running, I went to grab a tissue and, (graphic language coming...) blood starting flowing out of my head like a spigot.
Disgusting enough for you? You're welcome.

So, I thought it was just a little nose bleed. I ran up to the bathroom and just did what you do when you have a nosebleed. Except, it didn't work. Nothing worked. In fact, I was starting to feel dizzy. So I yelled for Tom and he swept me up and rushed me to the ER.

Unflattering photo warning:

Don't you LOVE my hair?

If you ever want to get into the ER ahead of every other person, bleed a lot. In fact, wear a shirt that makes you look like you've been shot. I'm telling you. They hate that! They will do anything to make it stop! Thank God.

So, I the final diagnosis was a capillary cluster rupture that was taken care of by the clamp and an Afrin Nasal Spray soaked cotton ball in that gorgeous photo above.

I was lucky. If it had been a posterior bleed, (way in the back on my nose,) it would have been much worse.

So. I came home and went to bed. No card. No video. No sneezing allowed.
I dreamed about it all night. That was especially nice!

I decided to give myself a break. With close to 700 videos at StampTV, I know there are plenty of fun things to watch and I also know how loving and understanding our community is. So, I will be back next week with a new video. I just wanted to fill you guys in on my exciting personal life!

Much love to you all!
Hugs,
Gina K.

  5. RELAX. You work way too hard. Take a few days and do nothing (which is very hard to do) We all love you and will be waiting. No problem

  6. So sorry you had to go through all of that. Must have been frightening. Thank heaven for ERs and what they can do. Rest up and get well soon. Edna

  7. Awh, our precious Gina! I'm glad they took care of you quickly! I'll have to remember the bloody shirt thing…LOL Take car of you and I'm glad you get a little extra time with your momma! Hugs. Love you! <3

  8. Absolutely crazy picture. You look like an alien. Brave of you to share. Seriously--what a horrible experience. Your humor got you through this, for sure. Hope your Mom is well, too.
How so sweet of you to think of us. We are greedy, for sure.
The good thing is you have an incredible design team, too, who can carry the load to give you a break. But you are right about all the videos--enough to choose from for the time being. Even Michele Zindorf took a few weeks and just did blasts from the past.
    Speedy recovery.

As you said there are many videos to watch will you take some very well deserved time to take care of you. Sending a big hug to you, your sweet Mom, and the family!

  11. So glad that they were able to fix you up so quickly! I suffer frequent nosebleeds and due to being on blood thinners it is NOT a pretty site!! I have woken up in the morning before and looked at my pillow only to wonder if I had killed my hubby in my sleep because there was so much blood! Not a fun thing to wake up to.
I have gotten pretty good at self cauterizing because I hate going to the hospital! Not smart, I know but it saves lots of money! LOL
    Glad you are okay!

Yes, you have a vast array of videos that keep us informed, inspired and busy so PLEASE ... take a break, relax, spend time with Mom and know your loving crafting community understands and will wait until you are 100%.
P.S. Love that little 'nose embellishment' ... that could be the next fashion craze ... LOL ... NOT! Hugs from Ohio!

  27. So sorry to hear of your situation, and hope that the worst of it has passed - to never come back :-). Take care, and listen to your body - it's trying to tell you something. We women, have a tenancy "not to listen" when it comes to "us." But, remember, we have to take care of us first, before we can take care of anyone else. Again, the body is trying to tell you something. Hugs & be blessed.

  28. I'm so glad it turned out well and was nothing serious! But I hear you on the blood factor...the staff will jump over desks and other people if someone comes in soaked in blood! All seriousness aside, that picture of you with the clamp on your nose and cotton up your nose is waaaaayyy better than a video!! hahaha...no really I shouldn't be laughing...but hahaha...
thanks, Gina. Praying for no future problems :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. How scary! Who cares about a video? We are just so glad you are okay. You take care and mend. We will be right here waiting when you are all better. Thanks for all you do for us.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh wow, so sorry! Hope it's over and done with now, and you don't have the problem again. I get nose bleeds a lot, but never so bad I had to go to the hospital! :( Thankfully they have slowed down since I started taking Vitamin K...so hopefully I won't have as much trouble this next winter when it's dry and our wood furnace is running (which is when I have the MOST trouble). Will miss your new video...but look forward to another one when it comes out! Take Care of yourself and your family!

  49. Oh my goodness, I'm glad it wasn't any more serious than it was. Take some time off, enjoy the time you have to spend with your mom (I wish I had mine to spend time with), and we'll see you when we see you. We aren't going anywhere, and I, for one, have been going back and looking at prior videos and having a great time.

You'll understand that It read like the beginning of a romantic novel. Yay for Tom, your knight in shining armor. Hugs and blessings to all of you.

  89. Aww Gina, how scary! I am sorry that happened to you. I hope it does not ever happen again! Thanks for the story. I know that you don't have to tell anything about your personal life, but am glad that you did share. I feel like a family member here. You just take it easy. We all love you, and no one is going to go anywhere just because of one missed video. Even if you missed 10 of those wonderful video's, I would still hang in there and wait for you. You make my life much better. Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Glad you are doing better, Gina. This reminded me of taking a trip with my 90 year old Poppa to my sister in Idaho. The first night, being on Coumadin, Daddy developed a severe nosebleed as well. We finally resorted to using a tampon, and, all being slightly crazy, we tied the string in a bow. Out father graciously allowed us to take pictures of him as well!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Oh my goodness! Loved reading the details of your event...not that I am happy about it but you captured it so well with your words! Hope this does the trick and you have no more problems! Yes, we have enough wonderful videos to appease us..... for now! :)

  118. Gina,
Take care and rest, I can sympathize, I have had 2 or 3 of these in the past week, and can be scary, I am on oxygen and get dried out, between that and allergies, I have to be cautious on sneezing and drying out, I am a faithful user of my net pot and lube the old nose and keep it moist and clean. . There is plenty of great videos to re visit, just take care of your self.
    Great big hugs your way,
    Donna

  126. Scary indeed - you were wise to panic and call for help. My Dad had the same thing - the hospital stuck the medical equivalent of a hot poker up his nose and that was the end of that. Not fun: count yourself fortunate that you got away with a clamp and a cotton ball. You may wish to up your intake of foods high in Vitamin C, as this has been known to strengthen capillary walls - the main problem behind explosive nosebleeds . . . meanwhile, stick the video: you've got way more important things to be doing.

  127. Goodness, I'm glad you were at home with your husband close by! His quick actions are to be commended. Now I hope you heal and this doesn't happy again because I know it had to be very scary for all of you. You take all the time you need to heal and rest up, no one will go anywhere. Hugs, Brenda

  130. Glad to hear it wasn't any worse than what it was! Really, though, you need to just relax and enjoy the time with your mom. My mom is coming for a week or two in July, and I'm just going to enjoy my time with her!!! I can hardly wait!!! God bless, and take care, Gina!

  132. Gina, so glad you are ok and that you are taking a little break to take care of yourself (and MOM). How scary!!!!!!! After reading that you are ok and it wasn't anything really serious, I then was able to chuckle about your comment about blood stained shirt and the ER!!!!! LOL So very true unfortunately. Hugs and a wishing you a speedy recovery and hope that this was just a fluke and a one time thing.

  133. Glad you are all patched up and on the way to feeling better. Must be a sign to take a little time for yourself. And thanks for the hospital pic! As someone that can't wait to get home from work, wash my face and go for the more "natural" look (no makeup!) I appreciate your honesty and self confidence in posting a picture that shows you at a time that you are less than your best! You rock, lady! Of course, even with the cotton balls and clamps you are still stunning! Feel better soon!

  138. Oh my! Glad that you are alright! That must have been very scary. Thank goodness Tom was there to take you to the ER, you could have bled out. I will anxiously wait for your next video, I just love them. But more importantly, get well first, that is much more important. Did they say why it happened? Violent sneeze? Be well!

  139. Take time for yourself, Gina. We'll survive knowing you're doing better. And thanks for sharing that photo! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, didn't see a drop of blood plus the earrings made a nice touch. ;) Keep your sense of humor, I love it!

  140. So sorry about your "mishap" but I can relate. Yes, when they see the blood in ER, you jump to the front of the line. Years ago when we were stationed in Guam I had a major nose bleed. Just as it was my turn to see the medic, it was their lunch time so I was sent home. The bleeding temporarily stopped, but when I returned to the dispensary an hour later I just sat down and it started gushing again -- so moved to the front of the line. Back then, no nose clip so I was just packed with gauze and sent home. Luckily, no more bleeds like that have happened. Will look forward to your next video.

  141. Oh, no! How brave you are to post your clampy photo. =) That happened once to my husband. Since I worked for an OB/GYN practice at the time, and we used tampons for *everything*, I stuck a tampon in each of his nostrils and headed to the ER. Needless to say, when we walked in and he had those darn strings hanging out of his nose (along with a bloody tampon in each nostril), he got triaged right away! No sitting in the waiting for for us, thank you very much......glad you're on the mend, and YES! You deserve some much needed time off. Take care....

I must say that the ER picture makes me notice (again) what beautiful eyes you have!
Been through the same experience but with my mother. The nose clamp is a new twist though. I'm pretty sure the ER used a Jr. tampon soaked in Afrin on her one time.

I have been watching your videos for so long. You were the one that got me starting in card making. I'm so grateful for you and all of the wonderful things you have taught me. When I got overwhelmed about a new technique, I used to put one of your videos on, just to hear your calming voice. Get well soon, I will be praying for you. Love, treen

  192. Glad you're better, Gina. I know what you mean about the bleeding effect on the ER. f you want to get in really fast, go in with a head bleed. I got my hair caught in a high-speed printer (big one the size of a washing machine) at work and my boss took me to the ER. I didn't even get a chance to sit down..they rushed me right back. My boss was more nervous than I was. :)
I'm glad you got such fast treatment, Gina, and hope you're completely well by now. If not, just take it easy..the world won't fall apart if you rest another day.

    ReplyDelete

I had a nose bleed similar to yours, but I had fallen and knew what had happened, So, you had to be scared; I was. Anyway, please take care, and if all of the love above doesn't make you feel a bit better, well, then, I don't know what will! LOL! And do not laugh or sneeze at this, please!
